Restoring the past for the calm of the future
Here, in Alma Vii, we felt from the very beginning that time moves a little differently. You sense the sun rising over the garden and that alone is enough to shape the rest of your day. Perhaps some of those long childhood hours have remained here, longer than any lived later. In a Saxon village where haste rarely takes root, we came to understand that true luxury has nothing to do with shining things, but with the rare ability of a place to make you feel that time no longer rushes. That it gently allows you to breathe, and, if you wish, to do nothing at all.

The house, just as we found it on our first visit to Alma Vii.
A Saxon homestead from 1850 and the path of responsible restoration
When we took over this homestead, we never intended to turn it into something entirely different. We did not try to straighten walls or chase perfect angles. Instead, we hoped to recover the soul of the house. Guided by the right people, we chose the demanding and humbling path of responsible restoration, accepting the limits and discipline that respect for Transylvanian heritage requires. Fortunately, we worked alongside an architect and local craftsmen who know how to “listen” to an old house.
We used lime plaster and limewash, reclaimed wood and old brick, honouring the noble imperfections of materials that have crossed generations. For us, this process was not an exercise in design, but one of continuity: the house was never meant to look new, but to carry forward its long life in a healthy, natural way, rooted in the vernacular architecture of the village.
The stillness of a place that asks for nothing
What do we see in AlmaCalma? The simple joy of living in a real house, in a living village that follows its own rhythm without performing for tourists. Here, what feels precious is a quiet filled with sound, born from a rich and unspoiled natural world — something that gently transforms you, clears your mind, rests your body and fills you with light.
Without even realising it, you enter a quiet dialogue with the elements offered by nature: the roughness of stone, the warmth of old wood, the coolness of lime, the honesty of cotton and linen. In winter, the fireplace warms rooms protected by thick walls, and you feel as if held inside a cocoon. In summer, the house surrounds you with a soft, natural coolness that invites deep sleep. And when night settles over Alma Vii, the absence of light pollution reveals the splendour of the star-filled sky — a sight that few places in Europe can still offer today.
A refuge for creative minds
We imagined AlmaCalma for those who seek quiet and meaning rather than entertainment. For people who value architecture and art, details, and things that age beautifully. For writers, artists, couples looking to reconnect, or professionals in need of focus and renewal.
You do not come here to tick off a holiday,
but to live, for a few days, in a rhythm you may have been missing for a long time.
At AlmaCalma, simplicity is not an aesthetic concept,
but the natural way of the place — like the wildflowers that grow on the surrounding hills.
