The first to be surprised were our parents. They knew we rarely watched television, but they did not expect us to have none at all in Alma Vii. After spending a few days here, they admitted that in this place watching TV simply makes no sense — and you do not miss it either.
The topic came up again later, when we had to obtain the official room classification. That is where a slightly absurd story begins. Some regulations written decades ago still influence the number of “daisies” (Romania’s traditional guesthouse rating system), even though they no longer reflect real comfort. Among many other things, you are asked whether you have a television. If you care about daisies, there should be one in every room — no matter how old, broken or unsuitable, as long as it is there.
Amused, we discovered how inventive people can be when they want to appear as if televisions exist everywhere. We will leave the details to your imagination.
Beyond the humour, we realised that at AlmaCalma a TV would fit like a square peg in a round hole. As for daisies, we prefer them in the garden, where they bring us the most joy.
